Well I have been working a new a commercial version of Remote Touch (2.1) which has a lot of very cool and exclusive features to Commercial (purchase-only) customers. You can buy it today from here.

Feature Summary:
+ Brand new rendering engine.
+ 256-bit Encryption.
+ Burst Mode.
+ Cool new Osd functionality.
+ Improved Browser Mode.
+ Important Bug Fixes.

Brand new rendering engine:

This is what took a lot of time to do. The rendering engine for the mobile is completely rewritten from scratch so it is faster and uses less bandwidth. Remote Touch was already very fast, and now it is even faster !

256-bit Encryption:

All versions until now used a less secure mode of encryption. Now security has been boosted to use 256-bit encryption. This way you can feel a lot safer than no one else is spying on your connections or connecting to your desktop.

Burst Mode:

This is really part of the Osd functionality, but relates to the new rendering engine. In the Osd, you can now choose Burst mode, which sends rapid changes to the screen to your mobile. There will be a video for Remote Touch Commercial shortly showing just how awesome this feature is. NOTE: This mode is only recommended for use when using WiFi at home. It WILL eat bandwidth heavily to give fast updates ! Also the performance you get from this depends heavily on how big your screen resolution and how fast your bandwidth is.

Cool new Osd functionality:

Lot of really useful new buttons adds to the Remote Touch Commercial like Minimize, Maximize, Close. There is also a really awesome new button called 'Active'. When you press this button it will automatically change the mobile view to show the current active window on your desktop. I can't live without this feature now.

Improved Browser Mode:

Browser Mode has been made faster and easier to use. It is much more usable than in previous versions of Remote Touch.

Important Bug Fixes:

Fixed various important especially a bug relating to DNS address causing Connection Failed error message. This has been an issue for a long time and has finally been fixed.

Fixed problems with HW keyboard causing weird capitalized text. Fixed various other problem found.

Download: Remote Touch Commercial 2.0

Remote Touch Commercial 2.0 is officially released.

Changes:
+ Extra 3 modes for very fast control over slow connections (same as 1.3 Commercial).
+ Supports up to 16 Keyboards to use with Remote Touch.
+ Updated patches with Remote Touch Keyboard Maker.
+ Obviously Ad and Banner free.
+ Important Bug Fixes (e.g. Loss of connection when transferring files on slower connections).
+ Usual Commercial Support with any problems you encounter.

Remote Touch Commercial costs $10.99 (USD). (Very affordable compared to other advertising).
+ Double Advertising Offer: Put $100 but get $200 worth of advertising !

How do I sign up ?
Just register here (Name & Email Address is enough !)
and you will be contacted shortly.
http://t2remotetouch.com/Register.html

Remote Touch now has a forum !

A Mr.Jiggs suggested this ages ago .... well better late than never !
Now Remote Touch has it's own forum:
http://www.t2remotetouch.com/phpadmin/index.php
You can get to it via the top panel bar (click the forum link).

The forum is made out of 4 areas:
+ Configurable Keyboard: Share your remote touch keyboards here !
+ Feature Requests: The current Todo List will no longer be handled via a blog entry. It has a learning curve, so I will definitely have two or more videos about this version. You can download it for free from here.

Summary of features:
+ On Screen Display (OSD).
+ Internet Browser Osd.
+ Configurable Keyboard (Create your own Remote Keyboard !).
+ Click Mode Osd.
+ Scroll Mode Osd.
+ Overview Mode Osd.
+ Notification Bar.
+ Improved Zoom Quality.
+ Keyboard Preview.
+ [Updated 11.05.2009] Hardware Keyboard Support

On Screen Display (OSD).

Almost all the features in this release of Remote Touch relies on the On Screen display (OSD). Press and hold your finger anywhere on the menu and drag it towards the center of the screen and release. This will bring up the Osd ! The Osd buttons differ depends whether you are in Click, Scroll, Keyboard or Overview modes. Read on to find the details of functionality in the Osd.

Internet Browser Mode:

I have had a lot of trouble with using mobile browsers on my phone. I find them slower and much harder to use than the PC browsers. This version of Remote Touch lets you browse easily on your phone using the power & ease of the browser on your PC ! When you bring up the Osd in Click mode, you'll see a button 'WWW'. Click it will bring up the browser in full screen on your PC. In browsing mode, when you bring up the Osd, you can do a lot of things like move back and forth in history, scroll the page up and down without having the move to the scroll bar. Just press '!WWW' to close the browser to come back to click mode. I will have a video showing browsing using the Remote Touch browser.

Configurable Keyboard:

This is a truly amazing feature. You know there are a lot of programs to control different software easily when you are at home. One to control Windows Media Player, one for VLC, one for Media Center. Now you can use a single program to control every program: Remote Touch ! When you click Keys and bring up the Osd you will see a grid of different keyboard installed for Remote Touch. By default, there is the full screen keyboard, a remote mouse, VLC keyboard, Windows Media Player keyboard and Picture Preview keyboard. These keyboards *.rkm files can be found in the directory you installed Remote Touch. You can add or delete any rkm file and in this way control what keyboards you want. Every installation of Remote Touch 2.0 on the computer comes with a program (Start > Programs > Remote Touch > Remote Touch Keyboard Maker) where you can create a keyboard to suite your needs ! I expect people to create and share keyboards so everyone benefits. The free version of Remote Touch lets you have up to 7 keyboards. The up coming commercial version allows up to 16 keyboards.

Click Mode Osd:

In click mode when you bring up the Osd, you have a number of options. You can cut, copy paste on your computer with the touch a single button (hence One Touch !). The most coolest thing is how easy it is now to transfer files to your phone. There is a transfer button on the Osd which lets you transfer files with a single touch. (Note that sometimes you need to tap the screen once more for the download to begin). You can scroll up and down in the software you are using like file explorer. The Osd also has a single touch method to bring up the file explorer in full screen. This will make controlling your PC extremely fast and productive.

Scroll Mode Osd:

Previous versions of Remote Touch meant you dragged the screen to scroll around the screen and tapped for Zooming in and out. This can sometimes make it hard to scroll around without zooming in or out by mistake. Well not anymore ! The zoom in and out feature is now in the Osd in Scroll mode. This means you'll never zoom in or out by mistake again ! (Well much harder to make the mistake :) ).

Overview Mode Osd:

A lot of folks have wanted buttons in overview mode to allow reset aspect ratio to 1:1 or full screen or 1:2 or 2:1. Well your requests haven't gone unheard ! Overview mode is the only mode which brings up the Osd by default. Nothing more really to say here, but it's very useful.

Notification Bar:

Now at the bottom of the screen, you will receive notifications. When you start a transfer, you will be notified when it beings and you have received it. This is extremely useful so you don't need to click the Remote Touch server to see the whether the transfer is done. The free version will also show you relevant ads and other messages for your interest.

Improved Zoom Quality:

Compared to previous versions of Remote Touch, the zoom quality has improved A LOT. It is much easier to read text when you have zoomed in or out.

Keyboard Preview:

I really need to post a detailed article on how to use the Remote Touch Keyboard Maker. But like the default keyboard you can have a keyboard preview which shows you what text you are typing which is makes it much easier and faster to type since the keyboard is full screen.

[Updated 11.05.2009] Hardware Keyboard Support:

I was surprised to hear that the HW keyboard was working in previous version of Remote Touch. So I have enabled the feature again. If you downloaded 2.0 prior to 11.05.2009 10:30 AEST, then you need to download it again.

Well, I hope you enjoy using this version of Remote Touch.
It's been a lot of hard work, but definitely worth it. Enjoy !

Remote Touch Commercial 1.3 Released

Remote Touch Commercial 1.3 is released !

Summary:
+ All Remote Touch 1.3 free features.
+ 3 Extra Black & White Quality Modes.
+ Banner free.

3 Extra Black & White Quality Modes:

I've added another 3 more modes exclusive to the Commercial version (in total 5 modes). You have a nice installer which will install for All Users on your machine.
2. If you connect your phone via ActiveSync, Remote Touch gets installed on your phone. (No need for you to manually copy it). I strongly recommend doing this BEFORE you start the installer.
3. If you need to uninstall Remote Touch, you will find it in your normal Add and Remove Programs list in the Control Panel.

About the only bad thing I can say about the MSI is it added 400 KB to my files !
I'm really glad I did this and those folks who had Vista problems will hopefully be fine with this new installer.

Tutorial: Upload files to your PC from your phone using Remote Touch.

How do I transfer files to my PC using Remote Touch ?

When you setup Remote Touch Server the first time you would have selected a download directory. Sorry about the delay in writing this blog entry.
From Remote Touch Gamma 1.0 onwards, you can transfer files to and from your PC very easily. If you haven't already watched the Remote Touch Gamma video this clearly shows how to do it.

How do I transfer files to my phone using Remote Touch ?

When you setup your phone to connect you would have selected a download directory in the Settings Dialog. This is where all your downloads automatically go to until you change the directory. I've circled this out below.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdICq2FbJUI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/WH1mOyeX64E/s400/SendDownloadLocation.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319317044974003522" />

Whenever you want to transfer a file to your phone, you can copy the file/text (as you normally would) you want to send to your mobile and either right click the Remote Touch Server system tray icon on the PC and click Paste Files/Text

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 208px; height: 114px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdIDytKvLaI/AAAAAAAAAHY/nWWFEvaapVA/s400/Context.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319318279530950050" />

or double click and bring up Remote Touch Server and go to File > Paste Files/Text from the drop down menu.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 389px; height: 311px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdID4RgugCI/AAAAAAAAAHg/-nS1IvpdMZE/s400/Menu.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319318375186202658" />

The cool thing about Remote Touch is that Remote Touch doesn't need to be running on your phone when you paste files to transfer to your phone. These files will get transferred the next time you connect to this PC using Remote Touch.

If you successfully pasted the file or text, you should see the queue updated as seen below in the Send Tab in Remote Touch Server.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 390px; height: 309px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdIEuXdpRgI/AAAAAAAAAHo/6kM-OaU1j7E/s400/OfflineTransfer.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319319304496825858" />

Once you connect to this PC using Remote Touch on your mobile, the files will start transferring ....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 390px; height: 309px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdIE5gLQElI/AAAAAAAAAHw/i4fgw-XTfXY/s400/OnlineTransfer.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319319495814156882" />

Once the progress bar is complete, you can go to the Download directory specified on your mobile and you should see the file your just transferred there.
Congratulations ! You just transferred a file to your mobile from your PC using Remote Touch.

Tutorial: Screen Rotation on HTC Diamond, Touch HD using G-sen.

Most phones allow you to change the orientation of screen using a programmable HW button.

1. Scroll through the menu on bottom of your screen and find "Rotate Screen" and select it.

3. You can then press this button while in Remote Touch to rotate the screen as necessary.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SdILZPZBaoI/AAAAAAAAAIw/xvAIkxM6XSc/s400/Landscape.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319326638134094466" />

However, if you have a HTC Diamond or Touch HD and want to be able to rotate Remote Touch based on the phone's orientation, Remote Touch will work nicely with G-sen.

1. Download & Install the latest G-sen from

http://skkvsoftware.com/index.html?m_util.html

Gsen installs three files to your phone:
1.Gsen CFG -This is to personalize abilities of program and is for advanced users
2.Gsen - This is the main program. If you click on the icon it will ask if you if you want to unload it. Don't unload program as this cease it to function until reloaded.
3.Gsen Toggle - This is the most important icon you need to access. Assign this to a button on your phone for best results of program.

How do I assign Gsen Toggle to a phone button ?

1.Goto Start > Settings > Buttons

2. Select the button you wish to use or if only one button is available click on it.

3. Scroll through the menu on bottom of your screen and find Gsen Toggle and select it.

4.Test if it works by holding down the assigned button for up to two seconds to see if you can see the tiny white spec on the top of your phone screen.

5.If successful, rotate your phone to see if it rotates. Gsen will not rotate Touchflo 3d screen if you have an Htc phone. Whenever you open a new program and want to rotate your screen you will have to turn off Gsen Toggle and then turn it back on each time. This is a safety
measure so that you don't open something you accidentally didn't want rotated. To turn off Gsen Toggle simply hold down your assigned button and wait for tiny white spec to disappear.

[Thanks to Joshua Volp for posting these instructions.]

Download: Remote Touch Gamma 1.3

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/Sc7JSEzRs9I/AAAAAAAAAHI/fnKSnV3pJbo/s400/RemoteTouch-Gamma-1.3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318409522334774226" />

This is a fairly quick update (compared to other Remote Touch releases), but as you'll see from the feature list, the main reason why I chose to release so quickly.
Download from here.

Summary of features in 1.3:
+ Proper WM5 Support.
+ Change profiles/quality settings on-the-fly.
+ Faster Landscape / Portrait Rotation.
+ Better Minimize Functionality.
+ No longer Always-on-top.
+ Installs for all Users. (7th April Update)

Proper WM5 Support:

Yes this is good news for a lot of people. I finally got a WM5 emulator working and could reproduce the '... cannot be opened ..' error a lot of folks have got. I have fixed it in this version ! I'm really excited about this as it means A LOT more folks can use Remote Touch for WM5. Note that it's very possible you may still have issues like this but that is specifically due to certificate issues on your phone. Please follow the instructions I have posted earlier for that.

Change profiles/quality settings on-the-fly:

Previous versions needed you to restart Remote Touch every time you change the profile or change from Speed to Quality which can be very annoying if you switch a lot. Now you can do all this without ever seeing that dialog about restarting Remote Touch again ! It has increased my productivity a lot.

Faster Landscape / Portrait Rotation:

The last version had a slower method of rotating the screen while inside Remote Touch. Now it's a lot faster !! Really happy with this. So if your phone supports it, you can assign a HW button in Start > Settings > Buttons to configure a button to change orientation of your phone. Then you can switch on-the-fly. I use this ALOT. For HTC Touch HD/Diamond users because silly HTC has removed this feature for you, you will need to use a program like G-sen to get Remote Touch to rotate using the G-sensor. It's possible there are other phones out there like Touch HD/Diamond. I'll post a blog entry about using G-sen soon. Watch this space !!

Better Minimize Functionality:

Minimize option should be working for everyone in this version ! This is great news BUT there is fine print for this. Minimize minimizes Remote Touch to a tray icon at the bottom right of your Today screen. You will NOT see Remote Touch in your running apps. If you use something like PointUI, you won't have access to the system tray, so you'll need to run Remote Touch the same way you would if you were starting it for the first time. You will need to tap the screen again for Remote Touch to come up.

No longer Always-on-top:

You may have found after exiting Remote Touch, the start menu was odd. That has been fixed ! Remote Touch also doesn't try to always stay on top. It behaves a lot better with other apps, so when the phone rings while you use Remote Touch you can actually answer it. :)

Installs for all Users:

[07-04-2009]
You can now use a nice looking MSI Installer instead of a DOS based installer. This is actually more than prettying up the installation process as some Vista folks would have had issues with the previous installer barfing up a lot. Remember, you need to have admin previliege to run the installer so it installs for all Users of your machine.
[07-04-2009]

OK I have changed the INSTALL.BAT so that it makes Remote Touch Server run for ALL users of your computer st startup. I had to do this thanks to a weird update for my Vista machine. Very irritating that vista changed behavior like that ! Anyway, you won't have to do anything special for Windows XP (at least when I tried it), BUT for Windows Vista users you MUST run INSTALL.BAT as an Administrator. So right click INSTALL.BAT and click 'Run as Administrator', otherwise Remote Touch won't start up the next time you reboot.

A huge thank you goes to Joshua Volp who has spent many hours testing this release. When you do a remote control app, it's even more complicated. It took a while to get this feature working properly, so I'm pretty proud of it. So yes, now you can change orientation of your phone and Remote Touch will handle it. Be patient as Remote Touch changes it's orientation to match your phones (It can't be as fast as a regular application). :) If you are downloading a file using Remote Touch and change orientation the download will continue.

Minimize Remote Touch:

Now there is a new menu option (Menu > Minimize), which will let you run Remote Touch in the background while you do something else. Great when you are downloading a lot of files using Remote Touch and would like to do something else on your phone. It also means when minimized Remote Touch won't bring itself to the foreground.
(This works well on my phone, but not on the emulator. Let me know if you have trouble with minimizing. I'd be very interested.)

Massive Remote Touch Keyboard Upgrade:

OK, this is one of the other biggest changes in Remote Touch 1.2. I've redone Remote Touch keyboard pretty much from scratch. It will give you visual feed back when you press and hold a key down and release it. The keyboard is a,b,c,d in portrait mode, but q,w,e,r,t,y in landscape mode for faster typing. I think you'll all(?) agree that this keyboard is waaayyyyy better than the previous versions.

Scroll Mode Architecture Overhaul:

I've also worked like crazy to reduce some of the memory used by Remote Touch. Scrolling takes about 55% less memory than previous versions which is ALOT. For a HTC Touch HD where Remote Touch used around 7 MB just for scrolling, it's down to a bout 3 MB !! This is a two phase improvement, the second phase will be done in the next version of Remote Touch.

Dual Monitor Support:

OK, so I've claimed to have support dual monitors in the past ! But this time it should actually support two monitors. (I hope) :) There is the very important condition that both monitors have the same orientation, resolution and bit depth. Controlling two monitors instead of one isn't any slower. It's possible that the Overview mode is a tad slower but everything else should be just as fast as a single monitor.

Improved Style:

Folks who had higher resolution phones would have struggled in the past with the width of the Remote Touch menu bar. Well now you should have a decent sized menu bar which you can easily tap with your finger. You'll also notice the Remote Touch keyboard looks a lot more pleasing to the eye and in tune with the rest of Remote Touch. I've also made the Download directory dialog easier to use.

You'll also notice a red/yellow/green rectangle on the right tip of the menu bar. It gives you indication of whether you are actually connected to the server or not.
Red - Not Connected.
Green - Connected.
Yellow/Red - Interchanging colour every two seconds means Remote Touch is trying to connect. This happens when Remote Touch loses connection in the middle of using it (not at the beginning). I find this information VERY useful when I use Remote Touch.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a couple of irritating bugs:
- Some folks couldn't see the menu bar at the bottom without pressing 'Home' and then Remote Touch aligned itself properly. Now you shouldn't need to do this. Let me know if this is still a problem for you.

- Remote Touch Server will complain now if you try starting it on a used port.

Removed Feature:

Remote Touch 1.2 removes hardware keyboard support.
It wasn't working properly to start with.
I've decided to make this a Commercial version feature only.

Of course at the moment, even the commercial version has
hardware keyboard support disabled till I actually get it working.
If you do buy the commercial version now and email me saying you
would like the HW/SIP keyboard support version when it is available,
I will send you the upgrade for free. Obviously the commercial version is
not free to distribute like the free version. :)

The commercial version of 1.2 is also released on Handango, Mobihand and Handster.
The difference between the version is the Commercial version doesn't have the start up banner.

Hope you enjoy this version !

Tutorial: Remote Touch with Bluetooth.

[Update - Joshua Volp has given his steps for setting up bluetooth on Vista. It may or may not be different via Windows XP. Thanks Josh !]

Required Desktop/Laptop software: Windows Mobile Device Center:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx

1. Plug Bluetooth adapter device into available usb port. Desktop/Laptop operating system (ie. Windows Vista) will automatically detect and install required drivers/software.

2. Install software included/embedded within Bluetooth device if applicable to setup partnership with cellphone, and create a password to keep other Users from accessing your Desktop/Laptop/Cellphone data.

3. Setup Active Sync connection on cellphone by navigating to Settings menu and then to Connections tab on cellphone to setup Bluetooth partnership and enter newly created password. Once partnership is created cellphone saves User's Desktop/Laptop information for instant connection provided User turns on Bluetooth and phone is within range of Bluetooth adapter.

4. Run Active Sync, open Menu and click Connect via Bluetooth. Run Remote Touch, go to Setup and Connect.

===

To my surprise it is possible to use Remote Touch to control your PC via Bluetooth ! I don't have Bluetooth support on my PC, so I can't give you anything more detailed or even a video.

Thanks to Nicholas for passing on this information to me.
If you find more steps not mentioned here, please let me know so I can add it here to help others.

+ In order to use Remote Touch with Bluetooth, use a simple Active Sync connection through Bluetooth .

+ First, create a partnership between the PDA and the computer. Detect/Search for the computer from the PDA . My understanding is once you have found your computer you don't need to do it again. Next time onwards, you just have to switch Bluetooth on in the PDA and the connection is established automatically (provided you are within range).

+ Check the Active Sync help for more info, but you have to set a port in the Bluetooth menu in the PDA and let Active Sync on the computer to connect through this port. Then you open Active Sync on the PDA and select connect via bluetooth.

+ Once the connection is established run Remote Touch & do the setup as you normally would.

T2 Remote Touch 1.1 Commercial Released

I am really excited about this.
Remote Touch is branching into a Free and Commercial version !!
Some people will want the free version, others the commercial version.
Both versions will be developed in parallel.

Why buy the Commercial version ?
+ Top notch service to help you through any Remote Touch problems you have.
+ As time goes commercial version will have more & more features which you won't find even in the free version of Remote Touch.
+ It'll cost you around $10.99 which is still a lot cheaper than some of those expensive remote host control programs !!

You can buy it from various stores:
Handango
Handster
Mobihand

Join the Remote Touch Mailing List !

Thanks Sandya & Saijo for the suggestion !
I really liked the idea and thanks to Google groups now you can join the Remote Touch mailing list ! Bug fixes are of course the highest priority for me, unless there is a workaround !

I've classified each feature into low, medium and high priority to give you an idea when you can expect them in future releases. If you really want a feature sooner, let me know (email or on this blog) and I will change upcoming features accordingly.

Bug Fixes:

<s>+ Fix Full screen mode instead of pressing home.</s>

+ Mobiles with hardware keyboard, the hardware keyboard is sending text like 'HeLlO hOw ArE yOu" to the desktop.

Features:

High Priority

<s>+ Minimize or Tray Icon for mobile. (i.e Allow using the rest of the mobile while Remote Touch is still running).</s>

<s>+ Landscape and Portrait Auto orientation fix: You shouldn't need to exit Remote Touch change orientation and start it up again to get it to work.</s>

+ Allow SW/SIP keyboard: Allow more than Remote Touch's keyboard.

<s>+ Dual Monitor Support.</s>

<s>+ add more functionality to the 'Overview' tab; maybe some buttons for selecting whole screen, 1:1 screen.</s>

<s>+ 'Scroll' tab some small buttons for zooming in & out would be useful.</s>

+ Overview minimap in the corner in Click Mode.

Medium Priority

<s>+ Configurable keyboard: So you can have controls for any particular software. </s>

+ Make remote touch server a service.

+ Adjust scroll DeltaX/Y with zoom factor. Actually it appears it is always the same scroll unity used, making scroll too sensitive with big zooms, and a pain to displace when lower zoom used.

<s>+ Black and white mode for fastest possible speed and improved battery life.</s>

+ Choose subset of the screen. (e.g. instead of 640x480 use only 320x240 of screen).

<s>+ Send to Remote Touch in Windows Explorer Right Click Menu.</s>

<s>+ In scroll mode make the zoom in less sensitive. Sometimes zoom takes place when user is just trying to scroll.</s>

<s>+ In this "mouse" mode, the PDA's screen can be used as a mousepad (like a laptop's mousepad). </s>

Low Priority

+ Exaggerated Scrolling: Like maybe 150% so that it would be faster to move across the screen.

+ I installed a virtual keyboard on the pc's I want to access so then I can use the on screen keyboard when needed. Maybe you could incorporate one into the server/pc side of the sw. ?

+ Possibility to assign a hardware button to enable/disable the scroll mode.

+ Auto hide menu, to get more work screen space. Menu can show up when user clicks on the menu area, and hide after a time out, if no more clicks done on that area.

<s>+ Menu option to reset aspect ratio, maintaining current Horizontal, or Vertical, Zoom. Reset Horiz, Reset Vert.</s>

<s>+ Incremental Zoom in and out (from Scroll).</s>

Download: Remote Touch Gamma (v1.1)

Welcome to 2009 ! Version 1.1 of Remote Touch is out !
It adds a few handy features. Download it here.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SZFCArUtzaI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/b4d0noz5rSg/s400/Remote+Touch+-+Gamma+v1.1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5301090815788830114" />

Summary of Changes:
+ Color scroll mode.
+ Multiple Server Profiles.
+ Start up loading screen.
+ View layers (like Windows Sidebar in vista).
+ Bug Fixes

Color scroll mode.

Hated the fact scroll mode was in grey scale ?
Not anymore. You can scroll around you desktop in full color.
Don't worry, it's just as fast.

Multiple Server Profiles.

Do you use remote touch to control more than one computer ? If you do, you'd hate having to write the address, port and password to switch between different computers over and over. This version allows you to save up to 5 different server profiles.
Once saved, you just choose a different profile to connect to a different machine.

Start up loading screen

Now Remote Touch starts up with a progress loading screen at the beginning. This is really handy when you are sitting there waiting after you click remote touch and wondering what's happening. Is it connecting or not ? The start up time hasn't slowed down because of this. It is just as fast as previous versions !

View layers (like Windows Sidebar in vista)

Windows side bar was missing in previous versions of Remote Touch. Now with a *standard* aspect ratio, you can see the side bar and other layers on top of the normal desktop. This will get fixed further in future releases.

Bug Fixes

1. If you change from landscape to portrait and vice versa, the aspect ratio is reset so it doesn't look squashed or stretched.

2. On some vista machines on boot up, it was like the Ctrl button was pressed down. This has been fixed up now.

[Updated 10th Feb 2008 AEST]
3. Fixed a bug in this version itself where it wouldn't fail to connect with a direct Usb connection. I've uploaded a newer version of 1.1 with this fix and updated the link in this blog. Thanks for spotting it Pirgas !!
[/Updated 10th Feb 2008 AEST]

Enjoy !

Notice: Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a Safe n Merry Christmas and Happy 2009 !!!
I'm going on vacation till end of Jan - so no software updates till then.
When I can, I'll reply to your comments and emails.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SUTH26v_vRI/AAAAAAAAAGI/hFpzQ04l8ns/s400/45311682dwiWIT_ph.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279564409482493202" />

[The photo came from Webshots. Change this to connect to a different server (requires restarting Remote Touch again).

Port - This is the port which is the server you are connecting to is running on. The address and port is pretty common across all remote control apps.

Password - The is the password which the server uses. If you don't use a password (it's optional), the communication between the client and server isn't encrypted. I strongly suggest using a password which encrypts the communication between client and server. Also I suggest using a password different to other passwords.

Download Dir - This is the location to save files received from the server. I strongly recommend setting this to your storage card as it affects battery life and remote touch performance if you select the phone's main memory.

Speed or Quality - If you want high performance through WiFi or 3G or connect remotely using 2G, GPRS I suggest using the 'Speed' setting. It will degrade the quality of the connection but improve performance and battery life considerably. Quality setting transfers data to give the best possible visible quality for your phone. If you plan on looking at photos etc, I suggest Quality. If you are using your phone as a remote music player controller or remote while watching a movie I would use the Speed setting.

All these settings except 'Download Dir' require you to restart Remote Touch. If you only change the 'Download Dir' the change is effective immediately. I feel really relieved now that I've written this blog.

Issue: Auto rotation landscape to portrait.

[Fixed in 1.2 and higher.]

Many people have talked about memory leaks, covered menu etc problems when they switch from landscape to portrait when running Remote Touch. The fact is Remote Touch as of now doesn't support switch from portrait to landscape or vice versa WHILE remote touch is running. I'll fix this up in future versions, but it isn't supported right now.

If you want to use landscape or portrait, first choose the desired orientation and then run Remote Touch and everything will work fine. This blog will explain each menu entry in the Remote Touch Gamma menu.

Upload File - Click this menu item to upload a file from your mobile to your PC.

Send Paste - Before starting Remote Touch, copy text you want to send to your server, then click this menu item to transfer it to the server.

Setup - This menu item lets you configure your connection with the server. This is the same dialog you get the first time you run Remote Touch on your phone. You can change your download path, connect to a different server or change the quality of your connection. I'll write another feature blog on the setup dialog next.

Reset - This is a very useful feature to reset the aspect ratio to 1:1 with your desktop. So if you mobile has a 640x480 screen, after pressing this menu item you will be looking at 640x480 of your desktop screen. This is useful also when changing the orientation from landscape to desktop and to get the scaling correct.

Exit - No prizes for guessing. It quits the software. :)

Workaround Issue: Remote Touch doesn't connect without opening another application.

For some users who use internet connection (HSDPA, GPRS, UMTS etc), Remote Touch wouldn't connect to the Remote Touch server if they already had a net connection open. This isn't a problem if you first connect to the net and then opened Remote Touch on the mobile.

I believe this problem occurs only when using the URL as the address for the server (IP addresses should always work). There are enough new and cool features in this release worth making a new video on YouTube. Send and Receive files from your PC and mobile while using Remote Touch. It works in a way that you can Send, Receive and control your PC all at the same time (i.e really fast) !!

You can Drag n Drop files from Windows Explorer to Remote Touch Server to transfer files to your mobile. Copy the files in windows explorer and paste them in Remote Touch Server. You can copy and paste text from PC to mobile. Of course, vice versa works too. Upload files & Copy n Paste text from your mobile to your PC.

Schedule transfer from your PC.

This is really neat feature too. Suppose you are working on PC and you want to see some music or important document or some text you want to put on your mobile, but your too lazy to go and get your mobile to do the transfer. You can just copy and paste the files or text or drag and drop the files into the Remote Touch Server. (i.e Just like you would if you mobile was connected). When you do finally login using Remote Touch from your mobile, all the files and clip board will be transferred to your mobile.

D-pad navigation.

You can use the D-pad of your mobile to move to adjacent cells while in click mode. So it's easy to move around the screen without having to use Scroll or Overview modes all the time. Thanks to BigSniperBoy for suggesting it first. This gives a third method of navigating the screen and works quite well and compliments Scroll and Overview modes.

Hardware keyboard support.

My HTC Touch doesn't have a physical keyboard, so I really couldn't test this feature out myself, but you should be able to use your hardware keyboard (along with the Remote Touch keyboard) to type to your PC remotely.

Bug Fixes.

Couple of annoying bugs in previous releases have been fixed.

1. First time you connect to your mobile, the scale for the desktop wasn't right. Now it maps it correctly. Suprisingly didn't see anyone make any complaints about this.

2. When you first pressed on the screen in overview mode, it would select some random rectangle instead of where you selected. Fixed now.

Enjoy !

Issue: Remote control dual monitor screens.

[Fixed in 1.2 and higher.]

[CORRECTION: Remote Touch will currently ONLY let you control the primary desktop if you have dual screen monitors. Obviously your PC also needs to be accessible anywhere on internet as well.

I can only give a basic guide (not very detailed) as the steps really depend on each person.

1. If you use a router, you need to enable "port forwarding" to allow traffic from outside your router through to your Remote Touch Server machine port (Port 3230 unless you changed it from the default). Searching on google and using your router name & model should get some useful results.

(So you need to setup your router so that all traffic coming in at port 3230 needs to go to your Remote Touch Server machine's local ip address. (i.e the IP address you see in the INSTALL.BAT file).

2. You may need to configure your firewall(s) to allow this traffic from outside your PC.

3. I recommend using a free DNS agent like No-IP (there should be other free ones too). Just go to their website and register. It is really straight forward, they will detect your external IP address.
[BigSniperBoy mentioned to make sure your "Host Type" is set to DNS Host (A) for No-IP. Thanks BigSniperBoy !]

4. You will also need to download and install their DNS client on your Remote Touch Server machine, so no-ip always knows your machine's current external IP address.

5. Once you have your DNS name (e.g. xxxxx.no-ip.biz) you can use that and enter it into your Remote Touch phone when it is connected to the internet (using either WiFi access, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, ED-VO or anything other internet connection) as shown below.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SQGEA-mHZWI/AAAAAAAAAD0/2hq-JojAtRQ/s400/login-dns.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260630992083182946" />

Once you set this up, you don't have to do any of this again !!
If you got this working, congratulations !
If you have questions, email me at remote.touch@gmail.com.

Issue: Connection Failed (Address:Port)

Probably my most common email problem is getting this error dialog in Remote Touch. This is generally a configuration issue, so there can be many reasons why you may not be able to connect.

I strongly recommend you watch the Installing Remote Touch video if you are having problems before trying anything else.

1. Did you use the right IP address ?

The .zip file comes with an INSTALL.BAT file. Use that to find the correct IP Address. For some computers, it may not show any IP Addresses. In such a case, try this:

+ Goto Start > Run.
+ Write 'cmd' and press Enter.
+ A command prompt (a black screen with grey text appears).
+ In the command prompt, write 'ipconfig /all'.
+ It will show many lines, somewhere in that is your IP Address
and will look something like this: (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

2. Do you have a firewall installed on your PC ?

Either your windows firewall, ZoneAlarm or some other firewall may be preventing you from connecting to the server. The easiest and safest way to find out this is the problem.

+ Disconnect yourself from the internet. (This is just for security).
+ Disable all your firewalls.
+ Now try again and see if this works ..
+ If it worked then you need to configure your firewall to allow traffic through Remote Touch Server port (Port 3230 unless you changed it).

Good luck !

Download: Remote Touch Beta2

You can download Remote Touch Beta2 now.

Summary of Changes:
+ Memory Architecture Overhaul.
+ Improved Keyboard.
+ IP & Domain Name (DNS) support.

Memory Architecture Overhaul

HTC Diamond and Touch HD users would have had problems running Remote Touch Beta due to it's high memory usage. Beta2 should fix this by allocating a lot less memory. Memory allocated in Beta2 is around 50% less than Beta1. Also the largest allocation size in Beta2 is around 90% smaller. I hope this fixes issues people had on the HTC Diamond. It would be great if someone could confirm this.

Improved Keyboard

Beta2 keyboard doesn't actually add any new keys. Beta1 already had most of the standard keys. Beta2 however provides better interaction. Try pressing the shift key in the Remote Touch keyboard and you will know what I am talking about.

IP & Web Address Support

This is a VERY useful feature allowing you to use both IP Address (e.g. 1.2.3.4) or DNS Name (e.g johnsmith.no-ip.biz) in the Remote Touch on your Windows mobile. This will allow you to setup your PC, so you can connect to it using Remote Touch from anywhere on the planet whether your ISP uses a static or dynamic IP address !! Have a look at No-IP on how to setup your PC.

Issue: The file 'PCRemoteMobileClient' cannot be opened. Two people reported this issue to me (Thank you !)

I'm pretty certain it's has something to do with the large resolution on the new HTC phones, so the current beta release can't allocate enough memory for it. Thank you for your patience.

Notice: 5000 Downloads & counting !

It's been 10 days since starting this blog.
Remote Touch has been downloaded now over 5000 times !

I thought I'd share some of the highlighting reviews Remote Touch has got during this time:

[Oct 14, 2008] by archimedes88 using dopod 810
Superb apps. Firstly, thanks a lot for such comments. I appreciate the time you took to let me know this.

Yes, Remote Touch is not digitally signed. Neither the .cab file nor the .exe file inside it. Some WM5 devices have a restriction that only allow digitally signed software to run on the devices. Thankfully, Microsoft realized their mistake by WM6.

You may ask why I don't get Remote Touch digitally signed so it can run on all devices. I have a couple of good reasons:

1. Getting a certificate for the .cab & .exe file is expensive and slow to use. Remember that I want to keep Remote Touch a free service.

2. If I did sign the .cab and .exe, WM2003 devices would have problems. They do not support digitally signed .cab files.

3. There is still no guarantee that every device running WM5 can run Remote Touch if I digitally signed it. Some operators, OEMs etc can lock down exactly what is allowed to run on the Windows Mobile. (Sick, isn't it !!).

So what can you do to get Remote Touch to work on your WM5 device if you have these problems ? Note, that this problem isn't only with Remote Touch, it will be a problem with a lot of applications.

I have 2 suggestions you may or may not want to hear.

1. The best thing you could do is leave WM5 and get on board with WM6 and above. I only found out about these WM5 issues today, but it makes me glad I never considered getting a WiMo device before HTC Touch (WM6). WM6 has more features and not so crazily locked down like WM5. I suppose some operators could lock down WM6 devices as well.

2. The less radical but maybe more risky method is to unlock your phone. Don't confuse this unlocking with allowing your phone to use any carrier. I mean unlocking so that you can be free of this digitally signed certificate curse on WM5 :). I found a couple of good articles on how to do this. Have a read and decide if you are willing to take the risk.
http://bitscrap.indradeep.com/2006/06/application-unlocking-windows-mobile.html
[I take no responsibility for what's posted on these sites.]

If you know more about this, let me know as I found all these today off the web !

Video: Installing Remote Touch

Here is a step by step guide to installing remote touch on your Windows Mobile. I plan on making a video on how to do this hopefully in 2-3 days. Till then I hope this blog answers all your questions.

Here is a step by step guide

1. Download the latest Remote Touch zip file from the Quick Links on the left of this page.

2. Unzip the zip file, you should have 3 files: INSTALL.exe, Remote Touch Server.exe and RemoteTouch.CAB.

3. Run INSTALL.exe and follow the instructions it does.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SPCvrQL-A7I/AAAAAAAAADQ/qJfUTvUGzqw/s400/install.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255893922755773362" />
3.1 First thing it does is copies Remote Touch Server to your Startup, so it loads up every time you log in. Now you should goto Start > Programs > Startup and manually run Remote Touch Server.

3.2 Second you need to connect your phone to the PC.

3.3 Third step involves manually transferring RemoteTouch.CAB to your mobile. From your mobile, you need to run the .CAB file using the File Explorer to install Remote Touch on your phone.

3.4 The installer will find all IP Addresses of your Server. I have circled the IP Address in red for my machine. (It could be the same or different for yours, that's why you need to run this installer yourself on your machine.)

3.5 Run Remote Touch on your mobile. The first time (& every time you goto Menu > Setup) it will ask for Server Address, Port etc. For Address you put the address the installer mentioned (In my case, I put 192.168.1.1). For port, leave it as 3230 (unless you changed the port for the Remote Touch Server).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YP0qg2dusP8/SPCpg31eDAI/AAAAAAAAADI/syPQjX7sv4g/s400/Login.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255887147350494210" />

The last step of the installer congratulates you (a useless step :) ). 3. Zoom out: By pressing and holding on the area of interest you can zoom out and see a larger area of the desktop surface.

If you have tried using this feature, you'll know it is really handy (& fun to use :) ).

Enjoy your day !

Video: Using Remote Touch.

Here is a video showing how to use Remote Touch.

Tutorial: Click Mode.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Over the next few blogs, I will explain a feature at a time in detail.

Today I will discuss Click mode. You can think of this mode as being in front of a PC monitor with a touch screen. Pressing on the screen is like clicking on the mouse. You can tell you are in Click mode by the Remote Touch Menu at the bottom of the screen. The text 'Scroll', 'Menu', 'Keys' and 'Overview' are all white.

There are 4 ways of interacting with your server:

Single Click: Press and release the area of interest on the screen.

Double Click: Like a mouse double click, press and release the area of interest twice in quick succession.

Right Click: Press and hold down the area of interest till the equivalent of pressing the right button of the mouse event occurs. e.g. Try pressing and holding on the Start button and watch the right click menu appear.

Drag n Drop: You can press and move the object to the area of interest on the screen. e.g. Dragging a file from one folder to another folder in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps.

Download: Remote Touch Beta.

Thanks for visiting my website.
This is my first ever entry and blog.
This blog is dedicated to everything Remote Touch related.

So what is Remote Touch ?
It is an application to remote control your PC or laptop using your Windows Mobile powered phone or PDA.
